Go to the next level at Melbourne's latest burger pop­-up, 8Bit Bonus Round, opening on Flinders Lane at the end of the month.

 

Shayne McCallum, co­-owner of parent burger shacks 8Bit (Footscray, Little Lonsdale Street) and barbecue joint Up in Smoke (Footscray) says to expect five all-new burgers, the "bonus round", and a semi­-permanent home for vego burger the Zelda, only before seen as a weekly special.

Ben Shewry’s fine-dining restaurant Attica has listed among the world’s best for the fourth year running. This again cements the Melbourne restaurant as Australia’s best.

 

Announced just half an hour ago at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants award ceremony in New York, Attica placed at number 33 on the list – a slight slip from its number 32 ranking last year.

Delicious burritos, tacos and nachos will soon be served up in the Rockhampton CBD with popular Mexican chain Zambrero one step closer to opening.

 

Zambrero Rockhampton City owner Colin Dean said the East St store, in the former National Australia Bank building on the corner of Denham St, was expected to open on June 15.

THE team behind the much loved Warwick Sushi are spreading their wings with a brand new venture set to open soon.

 

Young Jin Park and Min Hwa Jeon are busy at work turning 59 Palmerin St, (formerly Inca Gold) between Ray White and Just Because, into a traditional wooden-interiored Korean Japanese restaurant.

 

The new business, Soban House, is set to open by the end of June and owner Min Hwa Jeon is excited about the challenge ahead.

City councillor Houssam Abiad has issued a rallying cry to city businesses after narrowly losing a vote on free outdoor dining permits at a fiery council meeting last night.

 

Abiad argued hospitality businesses were “doing it tough” in Adelaide’s CBD, and it was unfair that they could pay more in outdoor dining fees than a food truck would pay for its city licence.

Neil Perry is closing Rockpool.

 

His flagship three-hat restaurant in Bridge Street, Sydney, will be transformed into a more casual space.

 

The closure comes less than 12 months after Rockpool, which Perry first opened in The Rocks in 1989, was named Gourmet Traveller’s restaurant of the year. Rockpool’s final service is on July 30. The good news is the restaurant will reopen nine days later as Eleven Bridge, with the same team, including executive chef Phil Wood.

In the weeks leading up to the reboot of his three-Michelin-star restaurant Alinea, chef Grant Achatz and his team have staged a series of wildly experimental pop-up dinners. Perhaps the most startling moment one night came when diners were given an envelope bearing a simple message: "Please, shut up."

 

The dining room was suddenly bathed in harsh bright light as waiters in white coveralls served a monochromatic dish of Marcona almonds, clamshell mushrooms and white asparagus in a white velouté on white plates atop white tablecloths. Servers, with a finger poised over lips, signalled everyone to eat in silence.
